We are, because it’s that time of year: when gardeners’ thoughts turn to seeds and our thoughts turn to bringing Victoria the best possible Seedy Saturday. So mark February 21 on your gardening calendar: Seedy Saturday returns to the Victoria Conference Centre, 10-4, with lots of old favourites and some exciting new features (more on that later – we like to keep you in suspense!)
This year, there are two exchanges: the seed exchange, where you can trade seeds from your own garden for those from your neighbours’, and the gardening book exchange, where you can trade the tomes you may have outgrown for those that better fit your current interests. If you don’t have anything to trade, you can buy seeds or books for a modest sum.
But there’s so much more: gardening talks run all day and are included with admission. It’s your chance to hear some of the islands’ best gardeners give advice that’s tailored right to where we grow. You can buy open-pollinated, organic seeds from the islands’ best seed producers, as well as plants, roots, tubers, soil amendments, bee supplies, and more. You can also get information: bring your gardening questions and problems for the Master Gardeners or find out about the many places in Victoria where you can learn more about plants and gardening.
Did we mention? There’s a cafe to keep your inner hungry gardener happy, lots of things for kids to do, and it all smells gloriously of spring. Hope to see you. We’ll all be there. No matter how seedy we feel.
