Basic (Garden) Training

Are you a beginning gardener? Or perhaps just feeling a tad perplexed by all the conflicting advice and ‘must-do’ lists flying around the internet?

Then you might be interested in one of Seedy Saturday’s ‘basic training’ talks. Each year, we try to include a few speakers who go right back to essentials and dish the dirt about how to get your seeds and your plants to grow up and stay healthy.

This year, we’ve got Linda Petite, head gardener at the Horticulture Centre of the Pacific, speaking at 10:15 about  the six basic requirements for starting seeds. If you’ve never grown your own plants from seed, or if you’ve tried and it…ummm…hasn’t worked out quite as you intended, this is the talk for you.

And, to get even more basic, at 10:15 Dwight Pennell talks dirt. Building the soil, that is. Because you can’t have happy healthy plants without equally healthy soil.

So come out to Seedy Saturday on February 21 for a spot of basic garden training. Otherwise known as gum-boot camp.
