‘News’ for Seedy Saturday 2015

We know that lots of people come back to Seedy Saturday year after year. And, while we don’t ever want to change our core seedy goodness, we certainly don’t want you to get bored.

So here’s what’s new – and, we hope, exciting – for 2015.

First, we’re showing a film. That’s right: your $7 admission (free if under 16) also gets you in to see the documentary Open Sesame: The Story of Seeds. It’s screening at 3 pm: the perfect way to relax after all that strenuous seed and plant hunting.

We’re also very pleased to announce that we’ve ‘imported’ Mojave Kaplan from the mainland to lead a hands-on workshop on seed cleaning.  This is for the experienced, larger-scale seed saver: you’ll get to play with – oops, I mean learn to use – cool machines like a thresher and hand-crank winnower.  You can even bring your own seeds to clean. The workshop starts at 2 pm and is limited to the first 30 people who line up at the door.

And, last but not least, we are also presenting a whole one-hour session (at 12:45) just for budding gardeners, aged 5-8: Clare Pepper explores the worm-filled and wonderful world of composting. That’s in addition to our usual children’s activity area right in the exhibition hall. Because we think that the most important thing Seedy Saturday can grow is more gardeners.

Of course there will also be new exhibitors, new speakers, and favourite speakers back with new talks. Because no ‘news’ isn’t always good news.
