I am. They laugh at me. Or languish wanly like some ailing Victorian lady reclining on her sofa. Or shiver and pout, because It’s Not Like Mexico Here, You Know.
Tina Baynes, of Corner Farm, apparently has no such troubles. It’s her 21st year of growing organic food (including tomatoes) for farm markets, local restaurants, and farm-gate sales. So if, like me, you are severely tomato-challenged, you might want to catch Tina’s talk “Tomatoes: Challenges and Treasures” at 11:30 am on Seedy Saturday, February 18th in the Victoria Conference Centre. Tina’s promising to deliver tips on selecting the right variety, growing healthy plants, using protective structures, and saving the seed for next year’s crop.
Perhaps, with Tina’s help, I can learn to grow ripe tomatoes somewhere other than on my window-sill. Though they looked very jolly just turning red beside the Christmas tree. Sigh.
