We waste our food. By some estimates, as much as 1/3 of all food grown in the world never gets eaten. More than half the food chucked out in Canada is binned locally – in people’s homes or at neighbourhood groceries. So, to reduce the amount of waste, we need to act locally.
This year Seedy Saturday is proud to present an information session on reducing food waste, featuring Gord Stuart, founder of the Green Circuit produce rescue programme, and Janelle Hatch, a community nutritionist at VIHA.
They’ll outline the nature of the problem, look at some existing local programmes, and discuss what else needs to be done. If you care about the cost of food waste to you, your community, and the planet, come hear what Gord and Janelle have to say.
“Food Wasted or Food Rescued”, February 16, 2 pm at the Victoria Conference Centre, 720 Douglas Street, is included in your admission to Victoria’s Seedy Saturday on a first-come-first-get-the-seats basis. Seedy Saturday runs from 10 to 4, admission $7, free for the under-12s.
Thanks to CR-FAIR for sponsoring “Food Wasted or Food Rescued”.
