That would be the vegetables you grow. But first, of course, you have to get them onto your plate.
That’s where Carolyn Herriot comes in. She’s followed her popular book, The Zero-Mile Diet, with a new project: The Zero-Mile Diet Cookbook. It’s full of recipes for turning the crops we grow in coastal home gardens into tasty meals and treats, as well as strategies for preserving harvest bounty for use in leaner times of the year.
Come join Carolyn at this year’s Seedy Saturday to hear her inspiring ideas about how to have fun in the kitchen (“the new sandbox”, Carolyn calls it!) turning your produce into nourishing vegetarian dishes. (Apparently it’s fine to play with your food, as long as you eat those veggies in the end.)
“The Zero-Mile Diet Kitchen”, February 16, 2 pm at the Victoria Conference Centre, 720 Douglas Street, is included in your admission to Victoria’s Seedy Saturday on a first-come-first-get-the-seats basis. Seedy Saturday runs from 10 to 4, admission $7, free for the under-12s.
